Why does the first run take a while?

The first run downloads the Tesseract language model for your selected language (~30MB for English). This is cached in your browser and subsequent runs are instant.

How accurate is the OCR?

Tesseract 5 achieves 95%+ accuracy on clean printed text in well-supported languages. Accuracy drops on handwriting, stylized fonts, and very low resolution images.

Can it read handwriting?

Tesseract has limited handwriting support. For best results with handwriting, use Document or Single block mode and ensure high contrast between text and background.
