Why don't some photos have GPS data?

GPS data is only embedded if location access is enabled on the device and the camera app has permission to use it. Many DSLR cameras lack built-in GPS. Photos downloaded from social media usually have GPS stripped by the platform.

What coordinate formats are shown?

The tool shows coordinates in Decimal Degrees (e.g., 48.858844°N) and DMS — Degrees, Minutes, Seconds (e.g., 48°51′31.84″N). Both are standard and accepted by most mapping tools.

What are KML and GPX files used for?

KML (Keyhole Markup Language) is used by Google Earth and Google Maps to display points and routes. GPX (GPS Exchange Format) is the standard format for GPS devices and apps like Garmin, Komoot, and OsmAnd.

Can I extract GPS from HEIC photos?

Yes. The exifr library used by this tool supports HEIC/HEIF, the format used by iPhones. GPS coordinates from iPhone photos are extracted the same way as from JPEG.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. All GPS extraction is performed in your browser using the exifr JavaScript library. Your photos are never sent to any server.
